Association for India's Development (AID) is a volunteer movement committed to promoting sustainable, equitable and just development. In solidarity with non-violent people's struggles, AID supports grassroots organizations in India and initiates efforts in various interconnected spheres such as education, livelihoods, natural resources, health, women's empowerment and social justice. From its humble beginnings in a student's apartment at UMCP in 1991, AID has now grown into a huge non-profit organization with chapters all over the US, UK and India. We now support grassroots organizations in almost all states of India.
At the Duke University, we work closely with student community by representing the Indian graduate students at campus-wide events like Springternational and International foodfest. More importantly, we hold lectures and seminars by prominent social workers and long term partners to create awareness about issues facing India, that are often globally relevant, among students and individuals in the larger Triangle community. We also conduct cultural and sporting events to raise funds to support selected projects submitted by our NGO partners in India. Above all, we provide a platform for individuals to meet people who share the same values and be part of a team that is committed to this cause.
We meet at the Bryan center on a weekly basis to review projects submitted by NGOs in India and also to discuss logistics for the various events we organize throughout the year.
We are always looking for new volunteers. Please email mm149@duke.edu if you are interested in joining us!
