Mission Statement:
Amnesty International's mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of rights to physical and mental integrity; freedom of conscience and expression; and freedom from discrimination, within the context of promoting all human rights. AI is independent of any government, political ideology, or religious creed, and is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.
Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with over one million members worldwide. Amnesty International is dedicated to global health issues (pollution and water/air quality, HIV/AIDS, and the standard of living), freeing prisoners of conscience, gaining fair trials for political prisoners, ending torture, political killings and "disappearances," and abolishing the death penalty throughout the world (taken from www.amnestyusa.org).
The Duke Amnesty Chapter welcomes any new members interested in helping acheive our goals. Join as a member, and we'll email you about opportunities and ways to participate with us.
